Vice President of Academic Affairs

Dr. Arlene Santos-George serves as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago.

Dr. Arlene Santos-George currently serves as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Wilbur Wright College where she oversees academic and career and technical education programs, institutional assessment, workforce partnerships, and strategic initiatives that advance student learning and success. Dr. Santos-George is an accomplished higher education leader with more than two decades of experience in academic affairs, accreditation, workforce development, and institutional effectiveness, planning, and research. Her career reflects a strong commitment to access, student success, and continuous improvement in higher education.

Dr. Santos-George guided institutions through the development and approval of innovative academic and workforce programs, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and HLC requirements. She also has extensive expertise in accreditation and quality assurance, having co-chaired Higher Learning Commission (HLC) AQIP initiatives, led comprehensive self-studies, and directed assessment frameworks aligned with national accountability standards. A frequent presenter at state and national conferences, Dr. Santos-George is recognized for her ability to implement complex policy into practice and foster collaborative solutions through data-driven decision-making.

About Academic Affairs Division

Wright College’s Academic Affairs Division is responsible for overseeing and leading academic transfer and career & technical education programs, faculty, student learning, and assessment to ensure quality for transfer pathways and workforce development. The Academic Affairs Division is comprised of the Office of the Vice-President, Office of Instruction, and the Office of the Academic and CTE Programs.

This division has many functions:

·         Manages curriculum development which involves the development or revision of new academic credit and non-credit programs and courses.

·         Ensures academic standards and quality education through development and implementation of academic policies, assessment of student learning, program review, and accreditation compliance.

·         Oversees the recruitment, hiring, professional development, and evaluation of faculty who must meet credentials to teach in their discipline.

  • Develops strategic planning for academic affairs that align with the college’s mission and vision. Uses data analysis to inform academic decision-making and improve student learning outcomes. 
  • Oversees student-focused academic support services such as tutoring and bilingual education support services. 
  • Works with internal stakeholders and external partners, including local businesses and four-year institutions, to identify training needs and establish articulation agreements.
