Read some facts about our most popular courses:

Notary

  • The class has been approved by the Illinois Secretary of State to meet the education requirements for Illinois Notaries.
  • The class is for both first-time applicants and renewals.
  • This class is online using Zoom.
  • The class covers in-person and online notarization.
  • The cost covers the class and the test. Other fees such as a notary stamp, bond, and insurance are not included in the cost of the class (see below).
  • You must have a camera on your computer so that we can verify your identity for the test.

In addition, here are some other facts about certification required by the Illinois Secretary of State. This was accurate as of September 5, 2025, but you should check the SoS website for any updates.

Secretary of State Notary Application Fees

  • Traditional Notary = $15
  • Adding Electronic Commission = $25
  • Traditional & Electronic Commission = $40

In addition to the application fee, a surety bond is required at the time of application. Traditional notaries should expect to spend about $30 on a bond. Electronic notaries should expect to spend between $75-100 total on their bonds. At minimum, notaries must have a stamp and a journal. They should expect to spend between $30-80 on these supplies. Total cost depends on the supplier and type. Errors & Omissions insurance is optional but highly encouraged.  This is an estimate of expenses only and is not a guaranteed cost.

  • Students do not need a driver’s license.
