Director - ACCESS Center

The ACCESS Center at Wright collaborates with students with disabilities to facilitate supportive services that provide equal access to programs and services.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) makes every effort to integrate students with disabilities into all courses and programs. Accommodations, based on the documentation received and the needs of the student, are designed to ensure that students, who are otherwise qualified, receive equal access to all of CCC’s programs and services. CCC does not alter fundamental academic requirements, but it makes reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities.

The mission of the ACCESS Center (AC) at Wright is to partner with students with disabilities, faculty, and staff, to facilitate opportunities for them to have equal access to all of our programs and services. We are committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive campus community at Wright.

Student Testing Accommodations:

All accessible testing requests must be made at least 3 days before the date of the exam.

Best practices are for a student and their professor to discuss how testing accommodations will be implemented for the semester. When a student’s only testing accommodation is extended time the best environment for the student is to remain with the professor. When a profesor cannot accommodate a students extended time the student can request to test in the ACCESS Center. At peak testing times (midterms & finals) ACCESS Center students may also be testing in the Testing Center.

Key Points for Professors
-In order for a student to receive their accommodations they may need to test at a different day/time than the rest of the class
-A student not testing with the class can be given a different version of the exam. The format, structure, and learned outcomes must be the same as the rest of the class. (Example, the class is taking a 50 question multiple-choice exam, the student testing with accommodation must also be give a 50 question multiple-choice exam)

For any student with the approved testing accommodation:

-Reader
-Scribe
-Distraction reduced/Free or Private Room

Please complete the Testing Request Form below:

Once the ACCESS Center has received a testing request from a student an ACCESS Center staff member will email the professor to inform them of the request. The ACCESS Center will also email the professor a testing form to complete outlining specific instructions for the exam; pick up/drop off instructions, lenght of time the class has for the exam, additional aids a student is allowed to use and/or any other important information.

When a student has completed the test an ACCESS Center staff member will print the form the professor turned in, include the start/end time of the exam, and sign the form. The form will be included with the completed exam.

Assistive Technology
