Why Take A Literature Class

The English, Literature, and Speech Department of Malcolm X offers a variety of literature courses.  Students can learn history and culture in LIT 121 and 128, surveys of African American and Latin American literature.  Students can also study classic and contemporary works in LIT 110 and LIT 126 (Introduction to Literature and Contemporary American Literature).

Literature encourages empathy and understanding of different perspectives – two skills highly needed in the business and health industries.  Through close readings and analytical conversations, students also develop critical thinking skills that are valuable to many professional fields.

All literature courses meet the human diversity elective requirement for graduation and are IAI approved.  But not only that, our lit classes are fun!  You might go on a ghost tour, engage in social justice, or write your own creative work.
