Mission
This program at Malcolm X College is founded upon the learning domains established by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. The curriculum is designed to instruct and assess students in the achievement of cognitive, psychomotor and affective domain learning objectives as established by the Medical Assisting Evaluation Review Board (MAERB) in order to meet the educational goals.
The educational goals also include the Medical Assisting Program assessing the needs of the local community through the local advisory board and other various avenues and providing an educational program for Medical Assistants to meet their needs and respond to changes giving graduates the best possible opportunity for local employment.
Specifically, the minimum expectation is to “To prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.”
Program Schedule
The program offers Full-Time and Part-Time scheduling options.
- Day, mid-day and evening courses offered
- Two locations: Main campus located 1900 W. Jackson Blvd and West Side Learning Center 4624 W. Madison St
Certification
The Medical Assisting Program prepares students to become Registered Medical Assistants (RMA) and Registered Phlebotomy Technicians (RPT). Certification is granted by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Accreditation
Based on the most recent Annual Report Form submitted to the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The Medical Assisting Program at Malcolm X College has a 90.63% five-year average of for job placement for the years 2020 to 2024.
The Medical Assisting Certificate program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Admissions Requirements
The Medical Assisting program is a selective enrollment program. Prior to completing the application please review the program requirements listed below.
- Eligible for English 101
- Eligible for Math 118 or higher
- Submit official college transcripts from all accredited colleges attended outside of City Colleges of Chicago to Malcolm X College Office of Registrar Services
- Interview with Program Staff
