Emergency Medical Technician Program

Career as an Emergency Medical Technician  

Malcolm X College, Health Careers offers EMT training during the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. This course prepares students to recognize the symptoms of illness and injuries and provide proper procedures of emergency care. After successful completion, students may sit for the EMT Licensing Examination.  

Course prerequisites:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Ability to read at a college level.  Successful completion of college English 101, Biology 116 or First Responder 100 can be used as evidence of your reading level. Students that have not completed any of the above courses may sit for the City Colleges of Chicago, Reading/Comprehension Placement Examination.     

    Note:  Reading/Comprehension examination is provided free of charge after students have applied to the college and are approved for classes.

Class offerings during Spring and Fall:

Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.


Class offering during the Summer:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
