Interprofessional Simulation & Virtual Hospital
The Virtual Hospital, located on the 8th floor of Malcolm X College, is a dynamic, simulation-driven learning environment designed to replicate the pace and complexity of real clinical practice. At 20,000 square feet, which includes 9 hospital rooms, an ambulance, an operating room, and healthcare environments that represent inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, it allows Health Sciences and Nursing Program Students to step into realistic patient-care scenarios where they can strengthen their clinical judgement, communication, and teamwork skills in a safe and supportive setting. By mirroring the workflow of an actual healthcare facility, the Virtual Hospital helps learners build confidence before they transition into real-world clinical rotations.
To create these immersive learning opportunities, the Virtual Hospital integrates advanced technologies that bring clinical scenarios to life. Students engage with high-fidelity patient simulators that mimic human physiology and respond to interventions in real time. Interactive digital case platforms and other simulation tools further expand the learning experience, giving students exposure to the evolving technologies shaping today’s healthcare landscape.
Together, these elements make the Virtual Hospital at Malcolm X College a cornerstone of experiential learning – an environment where students can practice, make decisions, learn from mistakes, and ultimately grow into confident, capable healthcare professionals.
The Malcolm X College Virtual Hospital Department opened in January 2016.
