About Tutoring Sessions

Before Your Tutoring Session

All students and staff are required to login to their Zoom account using a CCC email and password before joining a HWC Zoom meeting. Be sure to bring the assignment(s) you’re working on, assignment instructions, and any instructor feedback.

Length

Tutoring appointments are 50 minutes long. At the end of your session, your tutor will write up a summary of your appointment that you can view in Navigate. Appointments may not be scheduled back-to-back and should not last more than one hour.

No-Show Policy

A "no-show" is recorded in Navigate when you miss your appointment without providing notice. Please contact us at HWtutoring@ccc.edu or call (312) 553-5699 to inform the front desk if you are no longer able to attend your appointment. If you no-show 5 times in one semester, Navigate will restrict your ability to schedule further appointments, and you will be seen on a drop-in basis only for the remainder of the semester.

Tardiness

If you are more than 15 minutes late for your scheduled appointment, your slot can be given to a drop-in student. Please contact us at HWtutoring@ccc.edu or call (312) 553-5699 to inform the front desk if you will be late for your appointment.

Scheduling

We encourage students to schedule appointments in advance to ensure they receive an appointment time that works best for them. While we do take drop-ins, please note that a tutor might not be immediately available at the time of your drop-in. We will do our best to accommodate and schedule you for our next available appointment.

Tips for a Successful Tutoring Session

Start early

We are happy to assist you with study prep, note taking, brainstorming, and final revisions, but it’s important that you begin working with a tutor early to keep you from being stressed about pressing deadlines.

Come prepared

Have any relevant textbooks, syllabi, class materials, notes, and papers nearby. It is easier for the tutors to provide excellent tutoring service if you bring the appropriate materials to a tutoring session.

Come with a plan and questions

Know what material you would like to cover within that tutoring session. Actively participate in the tutoring sessions by having a list of questions to ask your assigned tutor.

Familiarize yourself with the course materials

We strongly encourage you to read the assigned readings and attempt to complete your assignment prior to requesting a tutor so you can take note of specific concepts where you need help. You and your tutor can review these concepts and work through similar problems. However, the tutor cannot do your homework for you nor help you with take-home tests, quizzes, or projects.

Use your tutoring time wisely

Your time with the tutor is valuable. Try to limit distractions (cellphone, TV, friends/family, food) while working with your assigned tutor.
