Highway Construction Careers Training Program

The HCCTP at Dawson Technical Institute, funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), offers comprehensive training to prepare students for successful careers in the construction industry. This program provides industry-recognized certifications, hands-on training, and professional development support to ensure participants are job-ready for highway construction and related fields.

How to Apply: 

  • Step 1: Complete the HCCTP Intake Form – Highway Construction Career Training Program Intake Form – Fill out form
    Complete the HCCTP Intake Form to express your interest in the program and begin the selection process.
     
  • Step 2: Attend an HCCTP Orientation/Interview Session (By Invitation Only)
    Applicants selected through the intake process will receive an invitation to attend an official HCCTP Orientation and Interview Session at Dawson Technical Institute.
     
    This is your time to shine, stand out, and show us why you’re a great fit for the program and the construction industry!
     
    Please bring the following documents to your session:
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Step 3: Complete the CASA Exam 

Applicants moving forward in the process will complete the CASA Exam. Additional testing details will be provided during the orientation session.

Eligibility Requirements
To join the Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) at Dawson Technical Institute, applicants must:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Hold a High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Agree to a strict attendance policy
  • Agree to drug screening requirements

PHASE 1

  • CIS 120 – Introduction to Computer Applications
  • CMGT 604 – Blueprint and Specifications
  • CMGT 609 – Construction Safety II (OSHA 30-Hour)
  • TECH 429 – Basic Math & Specifications
  • TECH 432 – Basic Arc Welding
  • TECH 472 – Vocational Physical Training
  • TECH 583 – Basic Hand Tools

PHASE 2

  • TECH 410 – Interior Construction I
  • TECH 449 – Professional Development
  • TECH 581 – Concrete Framing
  • TECH 582 – Residential Carpentry

Additional Required Courses

  • TECH 434 – Introduction to Plumbing
  • TECH 452 – Basic Electrical Theory
  • CE CONST 4381 – Highway Construction

Optional Course

  • STTRDE 118 – Forklift Operator
