Our Early College Program includes Dual Enrollment where courses are taught by Harold Washington faculty on campus (virtual during the COVID pandemic), Dual Credit where courses are taught at one of our partner high schools (virtual during the COVID pandemic), and Articulation which offers credit for Prior Learning and our Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs.

High school juniors and seniors can take a college class at Harold Washington College for FREE!  Students can enroll in the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Students in Dual Enrollment frequently enroll in English, Mathematics, Foreign Languages, Science, and Literature. Students can also enroll in career pathway courses including Business, Accounting, Architecture, Banking, Childhood Development, Criminal Justice, and Computer Information Technology.

Harold Washington College has a partnership with Chicago Public School (CPS) to offer college credit classes for juniors and seniors at the high school.  Participating students will receive both college and high school credit for their work.  High Schools interested in becoming a Dual Credit partner should contact City Colleges of Chicago at 773-COLLEGE or for details.

Eligibility - Dual Enrollment and Dual Credit                                                      

  1. Students must be a Chicago Resident Students must be a least a junior or senior in high school by the time they start a Dual Credit or Dual Enrollment class.  
  2. Students must meet the prerequisite for the course, most courses require that students be college-ready as demonstrated by the ACT, SAT, or the CCC Placement Test. (See cutoff scores below). 
  3. Non-Math courses may require English 101 eligibility, if taking the CCC RTW English placement test , refer to the CCC RTW English Placement Test Prep Packet before taking the test, make sure you prepare
  4. Math courses require college-level math eligibility demonstrated by ACT, SAT or ALEKS placement, contact the HW Placement Center for instructions and the access code  
  5. If the student is younger than 16 and not a high school junior, the student must demonstrate college readiness in Math, Reading, and Writing as well as work with Harold Washington Early College department to obtain permission from the College President to participate.

Dual Enrollment Registration - New Students                    

We are excited to assist you with the process of applying and enrolling for Dual Enrollment classes at Harold Washington College! Below are the steps you need to complete and links to the resources you will need to complete each step.                                            

  • ​ Apply Online. Complete the online application make sure you select the 2nd option for Dual Enrolment, refer to the Early College Admissions Application Help Guide, click here to apply online. 
  • Complete CCC Placement test if you don’t have ACT or SAT scores 
  • Submit the Dual Enrollment Packet found here, to Kim Bowens at      
    • Dual Enrollment Packet (fillable)  
    • Academic Permission Form (fillable) 
    • SAP Form (fillable) 
    • High school photo ID, you can send your high school ID or a state ID/driver's license 
    • High School transcripts, your counselor the Dean of Early College 
    • ACT/SAT or Placement results, CCCRTW English or ALEKS Math 
    • Submit official SAT/ACT report to Kim Bowens, contact HWC Testing center for instructions on CCC placement test

Dual Enrollment Orientation
This session will provide students with instructions for the application, testing, class selection, and registration process.  Students who have completed all required steps and permissions forms will be able to enroll in selected courses. This is a virtual interactive session. Make sure you have applied online at and complete the CCC placement test (if required) before the orientation.
