Center of Excellence in Business       

The Center of Excellence in Business at Harold Washington College is closely aligned to the college mission of providing liberal arts and sciences and continuing and professional education opportunities. Our Center focuses on business, entrepreneurship, and professional services and it is guided by our principles of quality, innovation, partnerships, access and equity.  We provide quality academic programs and pathways across all disciplines that will allow students to transition to both four-year institutions and/or high demand careers.

The COEB Advisory Council is consisted of experts from a variety of areas, including local business owners; corporate, non-profit, government and community-based organizations; labor force organizations; Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development organizations; educators; students; parents and representatives of special populations.

Year Up        


The Aon Apprenticeship program is an opportunity for students to develop vital skills in the workplace and earn a competitive salary while earning an Associate’s degree at Harold Washington College. During the apprenticeship, students are a regular, full-time Aon employee in one of the following areas: Insurance, Technology, or Human Resources. During the apprenticeship, Aon will support students with paid tuition benefits and weekly hours to support students in their pursuit of an Associate’s degree

 Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses is an investment to help small businesses grow and create jobs by providing them with greater access to education, capital, and business support services. To date, more than 9,700 business owners have graduated from the program across all 50 states in the US, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C. Through the program, you will gain practical skills across topics such as financial statements negotiation, marketing, and employee management, and gain the tools to develop a customized business plan for growth—for free.

Work-Based Learning        

City Colleges of Chicago launched an initiative in 2018 to help students graduate with work-based learning experiencesWork-based learning opportunities include apprenticeships, internships, earn and learn experiences, and other work-based learning models that offer students the chance to build on the job work experience, develop a professional network, and demonstrate technical and soft skills.Harold Washington College is committed to providing Work-Based Learning opportunities to students.
