Students and the general public should be aware of CCC's Responsible_Computer_Use_Policy ( pages 78-84)                                                                              

Students, faculty and public are expected to use computing resources for educational and library research purposes only. The following rules also apply when using Library computer workstations:                              

  • Students who are using the computers for scholarly purposes have priority to the computers. During days of maximum computer usage, non- scholarly computer uses will be referred to campus computer labs.
  • The public must use one of the Community Access computers. 
  • Moving, repairing, reconfiguring, modifying, or attaching external devices other than storage devices (e.g., flash drives) is not permitted.
  • Downloading copyrighted music, movies or any other media is not permitted.
  • Headphones must be used when listening to any audio, video or multimedia.


  • Only assistance animals are permitted in the Library.

Cell Phones                                                                      

  • Please set the ringer to silent or vibrate. Conversations on your phone are not permitted in the Library. 


  • Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in the Library.

Library Behavior

The following behavior is not permitted while in the Library:   

  • Buying or selling goods or services, or soliciting donations of any kind.
  • Excessive noise.
  • Using sound-generating devices, with or without headphones, at an audible level.
  • Inappropriate or disruptive behavior, including fighting, threatening, intimidating, or abusing library staff, faculty or patrons with words or actions.
  • Overt signs of substance abuse, including drunkenness.
  • Entering areas marked “Staff Only”.
  • Posing a sanitary or health risk to others, including offensive hygiene.

Food and Drink                                                                                 

  • Eating and drinking is not permitted in the Library. All food and drink must be put away upon entering the Library. Water is the only drink allowed in the Library. 

Personal Belongings                                                                       

  • Personal belongings and property should not be left unattended. The Library is not responsible for any lost or stolen property.


  • Library restrooms for non-Library staff are located on the first floor near the entrance doors. Staff restrooms are for library staff only.                                   ​

Circulating Fines                                   

The normal borrowing period is two weeks. It is your responsibility to return books on time.  Materials may be renewed in person or by phone, (773) 602-5449 before the due date. After hours, books may be returned to the book-drop outside of the Library. You are responsible for fines for any late returns.                                         

Overdue fines Kennedy-King College Library has eliminated overdue fines for all circulating books.        

Standard fee for lost or damaged items: $150.00 and $5.00 processing fee. Prices may vary based on the cost of the item. ​     

NOTE -  If a student returns a book which they already paid the fine for, the library staff submits the revision form to the business office and the business office will issue a refund to the student.                                                  

Headphones:  There is a $1.00 per hour late fee for headphones. If headphones are returned damaged, then there is a $30.00 replacement fee. ​                                                                      

Reserve Fines (non-textbook)                                       

Each three-day reserve book is charged a $2.00 per day overdue fine. Each seven-day reserve book is charged a $1.00.                                                      ​                 

Once a book is overdue for 3 weeks, the charge is placed on your student account by the Business Office and must be paid there.                                                                        

Standard fee for a lost item: $150.00 and $5.00 processing fee. Prices may vary based on cost of the item.                 

Reserve Fines (Textbooks)          

Overdue fines for each two-hour reserve book (textbooks) is $1.00 per hour.  Textbooks DO NOT LEAVE THE LIBRARY. If you have taken a textbook out of the library, we will contact security, and you will be fined the price of the textbook (even if the book is returned).            

Laptops: There is a $5.00 per hour late fee for laptops. If a laptop is returned damaged, then there is a $1,300.00 replacement fee. Listed on Library laptop policy form.  Laptops DO NOT LEAVE THE LIBRARY. If you have taken a laptop out of the library, we will contact security, and you will be fined $100.00 (even if the laptop is returned).    ​        

Scientific Calculators: There is a $1.00 per hour late fee for Scientific Calculators. If calculator is returned damaged, then there is a $140.00 replacement fee.                   


Lost or damaged books:        

When you are fined by the business office for your lost or damaged book, please come to the Library and speak to a Librarian about options to replace the lost or damaged books.
