The office of First-Year Experience (FYE) at Truman is here to help you get ahead academically, make new friends, find your way around, and more.  Our fun and engaging programs are designed to set you up for success.

Welcome to Your First-Year Experience at Truman College!

Peer-to-Peer Connections
You don’t have to do this alone! Our TRUbassadors are second-year students who are excited to share their tips and tricks for navigating college life. They’ve been in your shoes and are ready to help you every step of the way.

Leadership Opportunities
Want to take charge and make a difference? FYE offers leadership opportunities through workshops and trainings where you can sharpen your skills and boost your confidence.

From joining Student Government to leading campus events, this is your chance to grow as a leader and help shape the Truman community for future students.

College Readiness Workshops
Our College Readiness programming series is designed to help you start strong and stay on track. Through hands-on workshops and activities, you’ll learn how to navigate student portals like my.ccc.edu and Blackboard, understand your class schedule, manage your time, and access important campus resources.

Programming also includes:

  • Computer skills workshops
  • Exclusive field trips: a chance to connect, learn, and make great memories along the way
  • Wellness workshops
  • STEM activities
  • And so much more

Individualized First-Year Coaching
The First-Year Experience team at Truman offers personalized, one-on-one coaching to support your transition into college. Our first-year coaches are professional Truman staff and TRUbassadors who take a strengths-based, student-centered approach to help you build on what you already do well.

Whether you need help balancing your schedule, navigating your classes, managing your time, or just want to talk through your goals, our dedicated coaches are here to guide you. We offer both in-person and virtual coaching to fit your needs.

With regular check-ins and tailored support, coaching helps you stay on track academically and personally while connecting you to everything Truman has to offer. Our space is welcoming, supportive, and non-judgmental. You never have to figure college out alone.

Our Community is Our Strength
Whether it’s through our fun events, peer mentoring, or campus activities, you’ll always find a place to connect with others and feel right at home. Making friends, joining an organization, and getting involved is all part of the journey.

Convocation is hosted every fall and is the perfect way to kick off your Truman experience with a bang. Truman students, faculty, staff, and leadership are all excited to welcome you to the campus!
