Definition and Mission Statement
Sustainability is the practice of being socially, economically, and environmentally responsible in our daily actions and long term planning. The City Colleges of Chicago looks to provide a Sustainable Education by: (1) accepting students of all academic backgrounds, whether pursuing degrees,obtaining certificates, or taking non‐credit courses for career advancement or personal enrichment; (2) providing quality, affordable education to students for over 100 years; and (3) pursuing best environmental practice in student engagement and facilities management, to do our part today and teach the stewards of tomorrow.
Social
The City Colleges of Chicago looks to provide a model for inclusive education that meets students where they are academically to accomplish their unique scholastic aims. Our commitment is to create an institution that ensures both student access and success, with goals that include: increasing the number of students earning college credentials of economic value, increasing the rate of transfer to bachelor’s degree programs following CCC graduation; drastically improving outcomes for students requiring remediation; and increasing the number and share of Adult Basic Education, high school equivalency degree, and English as a Second Language students who advance to and succeed in college‐level courses.
Economic
The City Colleges of Chicago has been in operation since 1911, providing quality, affordable education to students for over 100 years. The City Colleges looks to make college affordable with cost‐effective tuition and fees, flexible payment plans, financial aid eligible programing, and scholarship resources. The City Colleges faculty works with our corporate partners to train students for careers in high‐demand and high‐growth fields, providing meaningful certificate and associates degree programs to help students secure jobs after graduation.
Environmental
The City Colleges of Chicago pursues best environmental practice in student engagement and facilities management, to do our part today and teach the stewards of tomorrow. The City Colleges of Chicago looks to provide myriad opportunities for students to learn sustainable business practices and become environmental leaders through classes, clubs, and enrichment activities. Our facilities staff leads by example with energy and water efficient operations, recycling, environmentally friendly procurement, healthy transportation options, and innovative sustainable design.
