Credit for National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Credentials

Credit for National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) CredentialsCity Colleges of Chicago will award Manufacturing course credit for credentials earned by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) via Prior Learning Assessment.

The Manufacturing faculty, in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President of Academics at Daley College and the Office of Transfer and Articulation of District 508, announce that City Colleges of Chicago will award Manufacturing course credit for credentials earned by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) via Prior Learning Assessment. Records of the NIMS materials that were reviewed by the faculty are on file in the District Office of Transfer and Articulation.    

Beginning Spring term 2017, students who enroll in any City Colleges program may receive college credit for the credentials listed, which are awarded by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). NIMS credentialing process involves performance reviews and written exams on related theory and other knowledge areas to demonstrate competencies.

Steps to have credit awarded at City Colleges of Chicago:   

1. Student must enroll in a degree or certificate program at one of the seven City Colleges of Chicago.  
2. Students must fill out the Authorization to Release the NIMS Transcript.  Download the form, fill it in, sign it and email with a photo copy of a government-issued ID to support@nimsskills.org (Indicate on the release form which City College Record’s Office address​ the NIMS transcript should be mailed to).    
3. The Records Offices will award the credit as detailed above during the semester the verification is received and CCC enrollment is confirmed.  Credit will be posted on the CCC Transcript. 
 
    
Credit Application and Restrictions:    
• Credit will be used to fulfill either program or elective requirements, depending on the degree or certificate program chosen by the student.    
• No more than 50% of any program may be fulfilled using credit granted via Prior Learning Assessment.
