Maria Fregoso

MA, Anthropology

Marité teaches anthropology and is the department's only full-time anthropologist. She has been at HWC since 2006 teaching courses in anthropology (202, 201) and history (216).  She specifically enjoys teaching anthropology with a Women’s Studies emphasis and those courses which have a Latin American and Latino Studies focus. These courses speak to who she is and are her heart. Marité has an M.A. in Anthropology from U.I.C. Her classes are always lively and energetic as she demonstrates a firm commitment to student learning through an active classroom. She is passionate about exploring different cultures and traveling. In all that she does there is a rock solid commitment to social justice which shines in the work she does with HWC students. These same students would also note that she has a strong preference for clothing that always remains in the black spectrum!
She will go out of her way for a Stan’s donut and is known in the Social and Applied Sciences Department for delivering them to faculty who cannot resist temptation.
