Janvier Jones

MS, Early Childhood Education and Teaching

Janvier is a full-time, tenured instructor in the Social and Applied Science Department. Ms. Jones attended Columbia College and graduated with a liberal arts degree. Later, she attended the Erikson Institute, a graduate school for child development, where she attained an M.S. in Child Development with a Type 04 teaching certification.
Janvier went on to work with children, as a teacher and program coordinator, for approximately five years before joining the Harold Washington College faculty, as a full-time instructor, in 2007. While facilitating core courses in Harold Washington's NAEYC accredited Child Development program, Janvier continued her scholarship, returning to Erikson to pursue a Bilingual/ESL certificate, which she earned in 2013. She also advanced her understanding of how to facilitate courses in the online learning environment by pursuing and attaining her Master Online Teaching certificate through the University of Illinois' "ION" program. Currently, Ms. Jones is pursuing a second Master’s degree that integrates several disciplines of study, and has broadened her teaching repertoire to include not only Child Development, but also Sociology courses. She is also sharing the position of Academic Online Coordinator for the Social and Applied Science department, and works diligently with students and faculty to insure the academic integrity and rigor of their online offerings. Janvier is happily celebrating her tenth year of teaching and learning with students here at HWC.
Janvier has also spent the past 30 years working as a professional singer and, more recently, as a voiceover artist. When she is not teaching, she can be found in the studio, performing at various private events, and performing with the band "Sway Chicago" in the Palm Court of the lovely Drake Hotel.
