The purpose of the Cosmetology Teacher Training Program is to provide students the opportunity to prepare, train and develop skills necessary to teach cosmetology or any practices related to the Cosmetology industry. This training will allow individuals to enter a skilled workforce which will promote personal and economic growth, contribute to community stability and provide and improve quality of life. This course is intended for any person who has an active State of Illinois Cosmetology License and is pursuing to further their education by obtaining a Cosmetology Teacher’s License.

Basic Teaching Skills for Career Education Instructors 8
Topics in this course cover educational objectives, student characteristics and development, the learning process and evaluation of learning, classroom management and lesson planning, assessment of learner performance, student motivation, and classroom development. Preparation and organization of subject matter of presentations include teaching objectives to be accomplished and correlate theoretical and practical applications. Salon Business basics are included, as well as applicable Illinois statutes and professional regulations. A portfolio and writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
Prerequisites:High School Diploma OR GED Certificate required. Student must be a graduate of an accredited cosmetology school AND possess an active State of IL Cosmetology License. Proof of 2 years of salon experience OR Grade of C or better in COSMET 211 and 212.

COSMET 224
Principles and Practice in Cosmetology Education 8
This course is conducted under the direct supervision of an Illinois licensed Cosmetology Teacher. It prepares the student teacher in presenting theoretical and practical demonstrations to students in the basic cosmetology curriculum. These demonstrations include the use of educational materials used in the classroom; use of technology in the classroom; and teaching techniques and technical skills in hair cutting procedures, using the clipper and the razor, procedures for analyze the skin, care of the skin and using massage and the skin care machine, and the development of hair styling techniques. A portfolio and writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
Prerequisites:Grade of C or better OR concurrent enrollment in COSMET 223.
