Program General Requirements

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​City Colleges of Chicago follows the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) model for the Associate in Arts degree that requires a total of at least sixty (60) semester credit hours and at least thirty eight (38) hours of General Education courses. Students may enroll in general education courses at any of the City Colleges of Chicago.  The Associate in Arts is designed to transfer to all colleges and universities that are participating in IAI.

Students are required to take courses in the following areas:
  • Communications
  • Mathematics
  • Physical and Life Sciences
  • Humanities and Fine Arts
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

Human Diversity

Newly enrolled or returning students who have not been enrolled for six consecutive semesters are required to take at least one Human Diversity course.  Students can choose a Human Diversity from courses in Humanities & Fine Arts or Social & Behavioral Sciences.  This course can be included in the total number of credits for the Associate Degree.  Students are not required to take additional hours to fulfill the Human Diversity requirement. 

Students should meet with their Academic Advisor for assistance to select courses needed for degree completion.

​Effective fall 2009, all incoming students to the CCC seeking an Associate in Arts degree are required to successfully complete eight semester hours of credit in a foreign language, which is equivalent to completion of a 102 foreign language course.
