July 2, 2012 (CHICAGO)—To prepare Chicagoans for the more than 110,000 new jobs coming to the region in the transportation, distribution and logistics (TDL) fields, City Colleges of Chicago and its industry partners today announced the first Transportation Expo on July 19, 2012, 1-7 P.M., at Olive-Harvey College, 10001 South Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago.
The event—free and open to the public—will feature presentations on educational and employment opportunities from City Colleges and industry partners, including: Coyote Logistics, Schneider, Chicago Transit Authority, UPS, Grainger, Walgreens, Illinois Department of Transportation and the Chicago Taxi Cab Operators Association. In March, City Colleges Chancellor Cheryl Hyman, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced the construction of a TDL center at Olive-Harvey College as part of City Colleges’ College to Careers initiative. The facility will be the first comprehensive TDL education center in the state, preparing students for an estimated 110,000 jobs over the next 10 years in the growing ground, air and rail transport, multi-modal distribution and logistics fields.
