Chicago Tribune: Larkin grads Quentin Ruff, Quantice Hunter spark Olive-Harvey

2/23/2015 12:00 AM

When the Olive-Harvey College men's basketball team seemed behind the 8-ball earlier this season, it turned to "Q-ball."

Larkin graduates Quantice Hunter and Quentin Ruff — well known in Elgin as "the Qs" — have led the southeast side Chicago community college to 15 wins in the past 16 games. The sophomores are focused on taking their team on a longer postseason run than last year.

"We've been doing a little something like we did our last year in high school down here this year," Hunter said.

Known at Larkin for their 3-point shooting, both are still doing it at Olive-Harvey (23-9). However, Hunter has altered his style to being more of a playmaker.

"It was kind of a big adjustment at first, but now it's getting easier," Hunter said. "Now we have a lot people who can score, not just me. Quentin and our big man (Javone Troutman) and guys off the bench can all score.

"I feel like when I was in high school people would tell me the 'Qs' were just shooters, but I think we're both better all-around players now."
