Guaranteed Admission Partnership Eases City Colleges of Chicago Transfers to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

9/26/2017 2:00 PM

Chicago, IL -- City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Chancellor Juan Salgado today announced that the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has become the newest of CCC’s transfer partners, a group of four-year colleges and universities that have committed to providing a smooth transition for City College students into the college or university of their choice.

“The growth of our transfer partnerships to include the University of Illinois’ flagship campus means that our students will be able to easily continue their education at one of our state’s finest universities, and demonstrates that City Colleges students are sought after and able to compete on equal footing with students throughout the state,” said Chancellor Salgado.

“Four-year colleges and universities have learned that CCC students are prepared and excel in the classroom. I commend the University of Illinois for joining with our other transfer partners in creating a clear path for our students from high school to community college and on to a four-year university. They are providing a ladder of opportunity for our students to pursue great careers,” he continued.

The Pathway to Illinois program, as the University of Illinois has dubbed the partnership, requires students to earn 60 hours of credit at CCC and complete its transfer agreement form. Students in the program receive personalized advising at their CCC campus from an Illinois adviser, and those who meet the prerequisites and GPA requirements for their intended major are guaranteed admission to the University of Illinois.

“We are excited that this new partnership will more clearly define the transfer process for students attending City Colleges once they have completed their associate degree,” said Andy Borst, Director of Admissions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. “By offering specialized advising and a path to guaranteed admission, we hope to see more City Colleges students continuing their education at our flagship campus.”

According to the most recent IBHE data, the City Colleges of Chicago are collectively the largest feeder of students in the state of Illinois who transfer to a four-year Illinois university.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign joins Arizona State University, DePaul University, Dominican University, East West University, Fisk University, National Louis University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Roosevelt University, and University of Illinois at Chicago in offering qualified CCC students guaranteed admission.

It is estimated that students who complete the first two years at one of the seven City Colleges and then transfer to a four-year institution can save up to $40,000 on the cost of a bachelor’s degree.

Developing stronger transfer relationships with four-year institutions has been a strategic priority for City Colleges, which has directed significant investments in all seven colleges to ensure that all degrees and certificates are made relevant to the demands of the workplace and four-year institutions. Furthermore, City Colleges has provided enhanced academic support, including a transfer center at every college, to ensure that students have the resources to be successful in their pathway of choice.
