Tax Credits

Hope Scholarship
Non-refundable tax credit (against federal income taxes) for qualified tuition and related expenses for each student in the taxpayer's family.

Criteria:	high school diploma or its equivalent enrollment at least half time in a program leading to a degree or certificate during at least one semester or summer session within the tax year enrollment in one of their first two (2) years of post secondary education at an eligible institution free of any conviction for a Federal or State felony offense due to the possession or distribution of a controlled substance
Award:	Maximum credit of $1650.00 per taxable year per student

Lifetime Learning Tax Credit
Non-refundable tax credit (against federal income taxes) for qualified tuition and related expenses for working Americans taking classes part-time to improve or upgrade their job skills.

Criteria:	high school diploma or its equivalent enrollment in a degree, certificate, or program leading to a recognized credential and must attend an eligible post-secondary educational institution, but does not have enrollment status requirements like the Hope Scholarship free of any conviction for a Federal or State felony offense due to the possession or distribution of a controlled substance
Award:	Maximum credit of $2,000 per family
