Federal Stafford Loan Program
Low-interest loans offering deferred repayment.
Criteria:Two categories:
  • subsidized (need-based)
  • unsubsidized (not based on need)
  • Award:Varies

    Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) Loan Program
    Federal low-cost loan available to parents or legal guardians of dependent undergraduate children.
    Criteria:
  • This loan is not need-based and traditionally picks up where need-based aid leaves off.
  • Award:Maximum loan equals your student's cost of attendance minus financial aid received.

    Illinois Teachers and Child Care Providers Loan Repayment Program
    Provides grants to encourage academically talented Illinois students to teach in Illinois schools in low-income areas and to enter the early child care profession and serve in low-income areas in Illinois. If these obligations are met by a Federal Stafford Loan borrower who has qualified for the federal government’s loan forgiveness programs, he or she may receive up to $5,000 in a matching grant to be used for repayment of student loans.
    Criteria:
  • Federal Stafford Loan borrower who has qualified for loan forgiveness. Grants are to encourage academically talented Illinois students to teach in Illinois schools in low-income areas and to enter the early child care profession and serve in low-income areas in Illinois.
  • Award:Up to $5,000 in matching grant monies to help payoff student loans.
