Reverse Transfer of Credit

What is Reverse Transfer of Credit?  

If you transfer to another college or university before completing your associate degree at City Colleges of Chicago, you can still earn an associate degree through Reverse Transfer of Credit. Students who transfer to a college or four-year university can transfer credits they have earned to satisfy their remaining degree requirements at CCC.

Reverse Transfer of Credit Process  


For students who previously attended City Colleges of Chicago and transferred to another college before completing an Associate Degree:

 
1. Provide consent to begin the process by clicking here: CONSENT FOR REVERSE TRANSFER OF CREDIT.
2. Prepare to submit official transcripts from all institutions you have attended outside of City Colleges of Chicago if you have not already done so. A staff member from CCC will assess your academic record at CCC and work with you to request the most recent copies of your official transcripts as needed.  

For New Students to City Colleges of Chicago beginning Spring 2015:  


1. Submit all official college transcripts from the institution(s) you previously attended during the admissions process at CCC.
2. After you are admitted to CCC, and enroll, you must provide consent to participate in Reverse Transfer of Credit. You may provide consent by logging into your CCC student portal, and updating your Student Preferences to indicate you would be interested in Reverse Transfer of Credit in the future.
3. If you do not complete an Associate Degree at CCC, a staff member will follow up to work with you and help you retrieve your official transcripts from the next college or university you enroll at.   

For Returning Students to City Colleges of Chicago Spring 2015:  


1. Ensure you have submitted all official college transcripts from the institution(s) you previously attended before enrolling at CCC. If you have not submitted official college transcripts, it is important that you do so for your transfer credit to be accepted and applied towards your associate degree requirements.
2. As you enroll for the semester, log into your CCC student portal, and update your Student Preferences to indicate you would be interested in Reverse Transfer of Credit in the future.
3. If you do not complete an Associate Degree at CCC, a staff member will follow up to work with you and help you retrieve your official transcripts from the next college or university you enroll at.   


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)


What is Reverse Transfer of Credit?

Reverse Transfer of Credit (RTC) provides the opportunity for students who took classes at City Colleges of Chicago but transferred to another college or university before completing their degree at CCC, to transfer back the earned credits they have received at another institution. Reverse Transfer of Credit is not for students who are currently enrolled at City Colleges of Chicago.  

What are the credit hour requirements to participate in Reverse Transfer of Credit?  


1. A student must fulfill the degree residency requirement at CCC. This means each student must have completed at least 15 college level credits towards an associate degree at City Colleges of Chicago.
2. In addition, each student must have completed at least 45 credits of additional coursework to participate. In total, each participant must have earned at least 60 credit hours of college level coursework to be considered for an associate degree at CCC.


Are there any costs to participate?


The institution you transferred to may charge a transcript fee to send an official transcript back to City Colleges of Chicago. Please note, some colleges and universities provide free transcripts for the sole purpose of Reverse Transfer of Credit. You may find out more info at the college you attend within the Office of the Registrar. Otherwise, you may send an email to reversetransfer@ccc.edu to find out if there is a partnership agreement at the institution you are attending to provide free transcripts to students for Reverse Transfer of Credit.


Are students guaranteed a degree from City Colleges of Chicago?


No. City Colleges of Chicago will evaluate the course work you completed at CCC, along with the transfer credit you have earned at another college or university, and determine if the associate degree requirements have been met. City Colleges of Chicago will notify you accordingly if you qualify for an associate degree based on the total credits you have earned.
