Chicago Police and Firefighters Training Academy Scholarship

The CPFTA Scholarship is available to only NON-CPS CPFTA graduates. CPS CPFTA Graduates are encouraged to apply for the STAR Scholarship​.    

     
The Chicago Police and Firefighters Training Academy (CPFTA) Scholarship is offered to 2016 and 2017 CPFTA graduates. In order to receive the scholarship students must:                 
  • Submit a CPFTA Certificate of Completion
  • Graduate high school with a 3.0 GPA
  • Have proof of Chicago residency
  • *Have an ACT score of 17 or higher in English and math indicating "completion ready"
  • Apply to City Colleges of Chicago
  • Enroll in a degree granting program
  • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)​

Student's must apply within 12 months of graduating high school.  The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and fees associated with college credit course work. Students with remaining need after financial aid funds have been applied (through Pell Grant, MAP Grants or other financial aids awards) will have the difference of the applicable charges covered by the CPFTA scholarship. The scholarship can only be applied to the fall and/or spring term.    

The CPFTA scholarship is a one year scholarship renewable for two consecutive semesters. Students must apply each semester (by completing the scholarship renewal process in the Student Services Office) and maintain a 2.0 GPA or C average to qualify for continued eligibility.                  

*What is completion-ready? Completion-ready means a student’s test scores indicate he or she can take developmental education courses, get to college-level work, and earn an associate degree within three years of enrolling at City Colleges.

The CPFTA scholarship is available to 2016 & 2017 NON-CPS CPFTA graduates. CPS graduates are encouaged to apply for the STAR Scholarship​.
