Peer Mentoring Leadership Program

Peer Mentor Program:      

  • Builds relationships between new and returning students
  • Helps new students navigate the college campus
  • Increases students’ awareness and knowledge of   available resources
  • Provides students with ongoing academic support
  • Allows mentors to develop leadership skills and give back to their community

       

Eligibility Requirements     

  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • ​12 or more completed credit hours
  • 1 faculty/advisor reference
  • Must be eligible for Financial Aid

 
Program Format    

Mentors are connected to a first-year college course and are responsible for meeting with each new student outside of class at least three times during the semester. Mentors meet with their mentees in the Wright in Your Corner Student Center where they help welcome and transition new students by teaching the following skills:  

  • Seeking resources on campus such as advising, tutoring, Writing Center, Math Lab, Wellness Center, Career Planning and Placement, Student Activities, Student Government, Library, etc. 
  • Accessing Blackboard, GradesFirst, my.ccc.edu, and student email
  • Transitioning to college, study skills, goal setting, time management, effective communication 
  • Advocating and problem solving
