Mission Statement
The mission of the Harold Washington College's Safety and Security Department is to create a safe and secure learning environment for our students, faculty and staff that is conducive to learning, and is consistent with the educational goals of the City Colleges of Chicago. This is accomplished by:
Building community partnerships with student organizations, departments and the greater Harold Washington College community to foster trust, mutual respect, and cooperation.
Being aware of our image and role within the institution and to use our skills, training, and knowledge to serve our community.
Responding immediately to all calls for service, both routine and emergency in nature.
Treating everyone we encounter with respect and dignity.
About Safety & Security
Harold Washington College Security is staffed with more than 50 security officers, the majority of whom are current or retired law enforcement or correctional officers. Your Safety and Security is of paramount importance at the City Colleges. Security Staff members take pride in offering high-quality campus safety for both Harold Washington College and the Workforce Institute.

In Case of Emergency
In Case of Emergency, call (312) 553-5644 or 5646 to reach the Security Office. Call 9-911 from any CCC telephone to contact City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications for Police or Fire response.
Emergency Alert System
Students, staff, and faculty members are encouraged to sign up for the
CCC Emergency Alert System to receive notification by City Colleges email, personal email account, mobile and home phone numbers, and/or text messages in case of an emergency.
Campus Hours
The building is open from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Closed on Sunday. During holidays and breaks, the building is shut down completely unless prior arrangements have been made. Please notify Security if you are in the building at off hours or working in an isolated area.
