Joseph Hinton

Joe Hinton is a geographer specializing in urban, historical geography with a focus on land use and deindustrialization. He is a 2002 graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (BA, History), a 2008 graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (MA, Geography) and a 2014 graduate of Northeastern Illinois University (Post-Graduate Certificate, Geographic Information Systems). He regularly teaches World Geography (101), Economic Geography (102), Physical Geography (201) and has adopted and taught an LGBTQ-studies curriculum for Social Science 102. Joe has been an active member of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the geography honor society, and the Association of American Geographers. At Harold Washington College, Joe enjoys being an adviser for the Harold Washington College Pride Alliance, and participating in Faculty Council and diversity-related initiatives. When he’s not thinking about geography (which is almost always), Joe loves spending time with his boyfriend, Paul, traveling, hanging out with his dogs Sophie and Fergie, and playing volleyball with his friends.
