Students in the Spring 2012 session of Chemistry 212 (Survey of Organic Chemistry) and Chemistry 207 (Organic II) had an opportunity to meet with a leader in the field thanks to technology.

Each student read The Quest for the Cure, a book focused on the search for the next generation of medicines, and are working on extra credit assignments related to drug discovery. As a part of the assignment, Professor Charlie Abrams arranged for his students to “meet” the author of the book, Dr. Brent Stockwell. Dr. Stockwell is a professor at Columbia University and one of the world's top scientists in medicinal chemistry research.

In the new organic chemistry studio classroom, the students were able to conduct a 45-minute video chat with Dr. Stockwell. Cameras in the classroom allowed Dr. Stockwell to see the entire class as if he was there in person.
