Registration Process
Gather information
: Review the Course
Catalogue
to get a better understanding of the classes available for study as well as the variety of schedules and credit hour formats available at each college.
Qualify
: Check the prerequisites for attending Adult Education classes at City Colleges of Chicago
Counseling
: Contact your local Adult Education department to be advised on the best course of study to meet your needs.
Assessment
: Before enrolling in classes, all students must complete a placement and/or progress examination to determine student placement.
Register
: Find out the time and date for registration at the campus you would like to attend.
Adult Education Classes
General Educational Development
(GED) exam: to earn a high school equivalency
English as a Second Language (ESL): to learn the English language
Adult Basic Education (ABE): for adults who wish to improve their basic reading, writing, and math skills
U.S. citizenship: for adults working toward U.S. citizenship
Required Documents - proof of residency
State of Illinois I.D. (state identification or driver's license)

Prerequisites
Prerequisites
In general, students must be at least 18 years old in order to enroll in adult education classes. However, 16 and 17 year-olds may register with an official release letter certifying that they are no longer attending high school.
(Recent arrivals to Chicago age 16 - 18 must have a parent or guardian fill out a form verifying that they have never attended a Chicago-area public school.)
Students who have F1, F2, H1, J1, or J2 visas are not eligible to enroll in adult education classes, nor are students who are short-term visitors to the U.S.
