Basic Certificate (BC)

This Basic Certificate program in Obstetrics and Gynecologic Technology is designed to present the basic concepts and principles for developing skills and competencies needed in special procedures which the physician may use to assist the mother in labor and delivery. This program will offer knowledge and obligation in aseptic technique, scrubbing, gowning and gloving; female anatomy, layers of abdomen, proper positioning, draping, patient safety, skin preparation, instrumentation, supplies, drugs, equipment, and different terminology, including different types of anesthesia used during labor and delivery.

Surgical Technology

This course is designed to present the basic concepts and principles for developing skills competencies required for assisting in surgery. The course will offer knowledge in aseptic techniques, scrubbing, gowning and gloving the female anatomy, proper positioning, patient safety, skin preparation instrumentation, supplies and drugs, equipment, and the surgical interventions. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. The lab portion of the course allows the student to practice the theory offered.
Prerequisites:Grade of C or better in English 101 and Consent of Department Chairperson and Concurrent enrollment in SURG TC 215.
