Malcolm X College’s Jovany Austin Chosen as Region IV Player of the Week
For the second consecutive week, sophomore forward Jovany Austin of the Malcolm X College men’s basketball team was selected as the Region IV Division I Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending Nov. 17.
In two games, the 6-foot, 8-inch Austin had 43 points, 35 rebounds and eight blocks. He finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks in the Hawks’ 88-67 loss to Highland Community College on Nov. 12 and recorded 27 points, 21 rebounds and two blocks in a 106-98 victory over Sauk Valley Community College on Nov. 16.
Austin, a graduate of North Lawndale High School, is pursuing an associate of arts degree at Malcolm X College and intends to major in business administration at a four-year college next fall.
Malcolm X College, ranked second among seven teams in the Region IV Division I coaches’ poll, has a 3-1 record this season.
