West Side Learning Center



As the satellite location for Malcolm X College, the West Side Learning Center currently offers Adult/Professional and Personal Development courses. The site is also available for internal and external space reservations.

Adult Education Department

Adult Education is a comprehensive program of free classes for adult students who need to learn or improve their English language or basic literacy skills, obtain a GED certificate, or prepare for the Citizenship exam.

AE Registration Schedule (time slots may vary between Main and WSLC)
Monday thru Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. 
Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

AE Instruction Schedule (time slots may vary between Main and WSLC)
Monday thru Saturday
9:00 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.
1:30 p.m. - 5:20 p.m.
5:30 p.m. - 9:20 p.m.

Adult Education Department services include:
GED Preparation classes (classroom instruction or online)
English as second language (ESL)
College readiness
Workforce preparation and Bridge classes
Basic reading and math skills

Professional and Personal Development Department
The department of Professional and Personal Development offers classes daily, evenings, weekends, online and in intensive workshop formats to attract students who want to earn industry certification such as Basic Nursing Assistant or Food Service Sanitation as well as students who want to take classes for personal enrichment or recreational purposes.

Auxiliary Services Department
The department oversees the day-to-day operations related to Campus Building Management and Operations in an effort to provide an efficient, safe and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff and the general public.
