Mission, Goals, Outcomes

Mission statement:

The Personal Fitness Training program at Malcolm X provides a quality education to prepare diverse students to become highly competent and successful fitness professionals, able to stand out in the competitive fitness and wellness environment.  The program seeks to set the education standard in personal fitness training continually evolving with industry trends.

Program goals:

  1. Students are prepared to sit and pass a nationally accredited certified personal training exam through National Academy of Sports Medicine.
  2. Students graduating with a Basic Certificate in Personal Fitness Training from Malcolm X are recognized by professionals in the fitness industry in Chicago.
  3. Students are prepared with technical skills in order to independently perform fitness assessments and write exercise programs for healthy populations.
  4. Students acquire the necessary softs skills and professionalism required to obtain a personal fitness training position upon graduation.

Student learning outcomes

  1. Demonstrate technical skills necessary to work one on one with a client
  2. Demonstrate technical skills necessary to teach participants in a small group fitness class
  3. Recognize personal training scope of practice
  4. Explain the legal practice boundaries for a personal trainer
