Register for Adult Education Classes

Visit the Adult Education Office (Main Campus) during the following hours to get started with the pre-registration process*.​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​

 *includes completing an intake card.  May also include placement testing if testing is occurring on that particular day.

 

Registration Process

  • Qualify: Check the prerequisites for attending Adult Education classes at City Colleges of Chicago

  • Counseling: Contact your local Adult Education department to be advised on the best course of study to meet your needs.      

  • Assessment: Before enrolling in classes, all students must complete a placement and/or progress examination to determine student placement.   

  • Register: Find out the time and date for registration at the campus you would like to attend.

Adult Education Classes

  • General Education Development (GED®) preparation classes: prepare for the high school equivalency credential exam
  • English as a Second Language (ESL): to learn the English language
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE): for adults who are not at the GED® level and want to improve their basic reading, writing, and math skills

Required Documents - proof of residency* (*other forms accepted)

  • State of Illinois I.D. (state identification or driver's license)
  • ESL students may use Matricula Consular 

 

Prerequisites

  • Students must live in Illinois and show proof of residency.
  • Students do NOT need a social security number.
  • Students must be at least 18 years old in order to enroll in adult education classes. However, 16 and 17 year-olds may register with an official release letter certifying that they are no longer attending high school.
  • Students who have F1, F2, H1, J1, or J2 visas are not eligible to enroll in adult education classes, nor are students who are short-term visitors to the U.S.

Cost

​Adult Education classes are free according to the rules of the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB).
