Library Fines

Circulating Fines

The normal borrowing period is two weeks. It is your responsibility to return books on time. Login to MyAccount on the library catalog page to check your account. Materials may be renewed in person or by phone, (773) 602-5449 before the due date. After hours, books may be returned to the book-drop outside of the Library. You are responsible for fines for any late returns.

Overdue fines for each circulating book are 25 cents per day. The charge is placed on your student account by the Business Office and must be paid there. In order for Library fines to be cleared, students must pay the fine in the Business Office. Once a student has paid his/her fine at the Business Office, he/she will need to have it cleared in the library as well.

Standard fee for a lost item: $45.00 and $5.00 processing fee. Prices may vary based on cost of the item.

If a student is billed for an item, that item becomes the property of the student.

Reserve Fines

Overdue fines for each two-hour reserve book is $1.00 per hour. Each three-day reserve book is charged a $2.00 per day overdue fine. Each seven-day reserve book is charged a $1.00.

Once a book is overdue for 30 days, the charge is placed on your student account by the Business Office and must be paid there.

Delinquent Account

Fines are assessed for lost or damaged materials. The fine for overdue books is 25 cents per day for regular circulating books, and 25 cents per hour for reserve materials.  If the fines are not paid within 30 days, a report is sent to the Bursar’s Office.  At that point, a hold is put on your account and you will not be able to register or borrow books until the fine is paid.
